Port Charlotte, FL – A
fundraising reception was held Wednesday
evening September 12, 2007 at the
Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club in Port
Charlotte to raise funds in support of Ken
Roberson’s Republican bid for the State
House. Former State Representative,
District 71 Jerry Paul introduced Roberson
and endorsed him as “the best man for the
job”. Also attending and endorsing
Roberson was former State Representative
of District 71, David Bitner and former
State Representative and former Speaker
pro tempore Dennis Baxley of Ocala.
Serving on the Host Committee were many
prominent local Republicans including
State Senator Michael Bennett, State
Representative Paige Kreegel, Dr. Pamela
Seay, a member of the Charlotte County
Airport Authority, former State
Representative Lindsay Harrington and
current Charlotte County Republican State
Committeeman, former Mayor of Punta Gorda
Rufus Lazzell, Charlotte County Republican
State Committeewoman, Jane Sturges,
President of the Charlotte County
Republican Club, Robert Hill and First
Vice-President Bill Folchi of the
Charlotte County Republican Club.
Roberson said “government needs to run
like a business and pledged to continue
the fight for lower property taxes”. He
praised the Florida Legislature for
“finally putting the brakes on spiraling
property taxes.” Roberson believes that
both state and local government need to be
more efficient with our tax dollars and
that more needs to be done to make
property taxes fair to all property owners
including non-homesteaders and businesses.
Kenneth L. “Ken” Roberson is a Florida
native and was born in Bradenton, Manatee
County, Florida in 1943. He was educated
in Florida’s public school system. Ken
knows the value of a dollar and hard work.
At the age of 12 he started delivering
newspapers for the Bradenton Herald. He
worked while in high school and while
attending college. Ken has owned and
operated his own business, serving the
citizens of Charlotte, Sarasota and Lee
Counties for 31 years. Ken’s family
includes, two sons, Mark L. (wife, Connie)
Roberson of Woodstock, GA and James Clay
(wife, Toni) Roberson, who is in business
with his father, of Port Charlotte; six
grandchildren, Trent, Abby, Zachary,
Hannah, Hayden, and Halayna Roberson; his
mother, Mary Roberson; three sisters, and
many nieces and nephews.
District 71 covers parts of Charlotte,
Sarasota & Lee Counties and is currently
held by State Representative Michael
Grant, a candidate for the Florida Senate.
